There are two cases: the washer washes but won't spin at the end, or the drum doesn't turn at all. The first usually relates to draining or load balance; the second relates to the drive system.
Possible causes
- Unbalanced load (a single heavy item like a blanket)
- Remaining water from a drain issue prevents spinning
- Broken or loose drive belt
- Worn motor carbon brushes
- Faulty motor speed sensor (tacho)
- Control board fault
Safe first checks you can do
Safety: unplug the appliance and close the water tap before any check, and never open the outer casing or electronic boards yourself.
- Redistribute the load or add smaller items with the heavy one
- Make sure 'no spin' isn't selected
- Clean the pump filter if water remains
- With power off, turn the drum by hand: very free rotation may indicate a broken belt

When do you need a technician?
If the load is balanced, draining works and the washer still won't spin, the motor, belt or board needs an internal check.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it try to spin and then stop?
Usually the protection system detects imbalance and cancels the spin to protect the bearings and cabinet.
